Dating from the mid/late 1940s, this is Mabie Todd Blackbird 5244 in black veined lilac pearl marble with chrome trim
This is fitted with a 14k gold Blackbird nib which like many vintage nibs has a reasonable degree of flexibility. This means that when writing without any pressure the nib produces a writing line of around 0.8mm which is a broad line. Depending on the additional pressure applied, this width increases to 1.0mm plus

This fills from an ink bottle using the lever on the side of the barrel and does not take cartridges. We have serviced the pen which includes fitting a new ink sac

We have fully serviced this pen which includes disassembling the pen and ultrasonically cleaning all the parts. We then reassemble the pen and fit the correct size of new ink sac, check the ink flow and the smoothness of the nib. We also check and adjust the tightness and positioning of the clip.
