About us
Who we are and What we do
The Battersea Pen Home is run by Simon Gray and Sean Lovell - its two founding partners. We specialise in repairing vintage and modern fountain pens which are no longer dealt with by the manufacturer's own service departments
After being based in Battersea for ten years, we moved to Epping in 2000 and then Northumberland in 2021
We repair most makes of fountain pen for customers and also service our own pen stock which is offered for sale on this site. Further information on the pens we repair and service is on our Repairs Q&A page
We were trained and certified by Parker and Waterman in 2002 as service technicians for their writing instruments. We are also recommended by Sheaffer in the UK
From 1995 to 2005 we organised the London Pen Show. In 2007 we handed responsibility for the show to the Writing Equipment Society
In August 2000, Simon Gray was elected to the Board of Directors of the Pen Collectors of America for a two year term
Simon was also a consultant for Miller's Collectables Handbook 2012-13 on pens and writing equipment
These are the front covers of some of our printed catalogues from the mid 1990s - the good old pre-internet days! Each catalogue contained around 120 pens and were posted out to subscribers around the world. Many pens of the pens we featured rarely surface today
Production of these catalogues ceased when our first website went live in January 1997
This was one of the first vintage pen websites on the internet along with David Nishimura's site at vintagepens.com. David is based in Providence, Rhode Island. From memory, we both started work on our sites around Christmas 1996 using Microsoft Frontpage and, a few days later just after the new year, we had each managed to publish our websites with a few pages and some images
Our name, the Battersea Pen Home, is a registered UK trademark
