Parker 51 Custom in grey, Gold cap - Oblique nib

Regular price £275.00

Excellent English 51 in grey with rolled gold cap from the early 1960s

Lightly used, this is an good example of English Mk1.   This is fitted with a 14k gold oblique nib (cut from top right to bottom left) with a writing width varying from 0.4mm to 0.8mm so is probably what Parker would have classified as a medium oblique.

The purpose of an oblique nib is to give variation in line width unlike standard (non stub) fine, medium or broad nibs which produce the same line width (monoline) regardless of which direction the nib is travelling.  With this type of oblique nib, the line is thinnest travelling diagonally across the page from bottom left to top right, and thickest running diagonally down the page from top left to bottom right

The dating of this pen to the early 1960s is based on the cap having the four prong/finger clutch (introduced around 1962) but not featuring the 'halo' logo or '51' imprint on the cap lip

This is an aerometric Parker 51.  The pen fills from an ink bottle and does not take cartridges
