This is an early english 51 Custom ballpoint in light burgundy with a rolled silver cap
This example retains its original factory chalk markings on the barrel which read '"51" M Jotter'. Parker marketed their first ballpoint in mid 1954 as the 'Jotter' ballpen with the 51 Jotter being introduced in late 1954. The 'M' indicates that the pen was supplied with a medium refill
Condition wise, this is a superb example and shows no signs of having been used with very crisp imprints on the barrel. As is usual with the rolled silver caps, this shows the very superficial surface marks in the lacquer finish Parker applied to prevent the silver from tarnishing. The photo of the back of the cap also shows the 'R Silver' imprint
Rolled silver examples in this condition and with chalk marks are now quite rare
This is the earlier ballpoint with metal barrel threads and the brass ratchet mechanism. With the 'Jotter' reference in the chalk marking, this is likely to date to 1954-55
This takes standard modern Parker refills
