Differences between the Mk1, 2 and 3 are outlined in Shepherd's 2004 book on the Parker 51. We usually follow his classification of the principal 51 design changes which generally agrees with Andy Lambrou's description in Fountain Pens of the World (1995). The Mk2 is of similar quality to the Mk1 in terms of the materials, but features a cap design similar to the Parker 61, a squared off end to the barrel and a slightly longer nib shell. Barrel threading on the Mk2 is the same as the late Mk1. The English production Mk2 came in black, grey, burgundy and teal blue with either the Custom (rolled gold) or Classic (steel) cap. Mk1 and Mk2 nibs are identical.
