This is an super example of one of the first Onoto patent self-filling pens from around 1910. With cap and barrel overlays in sterling silver with a repousse snail design, the pen fills using De La Rue's patented plunger system. The barrel is imprinted 'Onoto Self Filling Pen' and 'Sterling' which suggests it was made in the USA rather than the UK. The 14k nib has a black hard rubber under/over feed. Lightly used but in excellent overall condition, the barrel cartouche is lightly engraved with the initials CSI. Although this is likely to go into a collection rather than be used, we have still fitted new barrel and plunger seals so that it is fully functional. This measures 11.9cms capped and 14.7cms posted and is the size known as the short 'O' type - c1910
Exactly this model and pattern is shown on p33 of Stephen Hull's definitive book "Onoto the Pen: De La Rue and Onoto Pens 1880-1960" published by Shelley & Peacock 2016
