Mabie Todd Swan Lever Filler in silvery grey, gold and black pearl marble - Oblique nib

Regular price £165.00

Dating from the 1930s, this Mabie Todd Swan #2 Self-Filler in silvery grey and gold pearl and black marble with gold trim. The pen measures 13.7cms capped

This is fitted with a 14k gold oblique Swan #2 nib (cut from top right to bottom left) with a writing width varying from 0.4mm to 0.8mm so is probably what would have classified as a medium oblique.  A standard fine nib's line is around 0.4mm and a broad is around 0.8mm so this nib produces a line which will vary between those widths

The purpose of an oblique nib is to give variation in line width unlike the standard fine, medium or broad nibs which produce the same line width (monoline) regardless of which direction the nib is travelling.  With this type of oblique nib, the line is thinnest travelling diagonally across the page from bottom left to top right, and thickest running diagonally down the page from top left to bottom right

This has been lightly used and is in good overall condition

This fills from an ink bottle using the lever on the side of the barrel and does not take cartridges. We have serviced the pen which includes fitting a new ink sac

Fountain pens from the 1920s and 30s typically have a slightly heavier ink flow than most modern pens, and a supply of decent quality writing paper and blotting paper is recommended

Condition B/1 Oblique - (Ref 12835)

We have fully serviced this pen which includes disassembling the pen and ultrasonically cleaning all the parts.  We then reassemble the pen and fit the correct size of new ink sac, check the ink flow and the smoothness of the nib.  We also check and adjust the tightness and positioning of the clip.

This pen comes with our normal 12 month warranty.  We keep a detailed record of each customer's purchases so if you need to call us, we will have all the information here to answer any query
