This is an American Parker 51 Vacumatic in nassau green with the 14k solid gold Heirloom cap. This is fitted with a medium 14k gold nib which produces a writing line of around 0.6mm

This has been used but well looked after. All three lucite parts are in good shape. The clutch ring between the front shell and the barrel is steel with the centre ring highlighted in gold. The barrel imprints of 'Parker... Made in USA 8.' are readable and the '8.' represents the third quarter of 1948 (See Shepherd p162). The "51' element of the imprint is worn
The cap is marked 14K on the front and 14K Made in USA on the reverse. The clip is also stamped 14K. No 14K stamp is visible on the tassie ring on the filler cover so this has either worn away or the tassie ring is gold filled. As with any smooth metal surface, close up photos reveal all the many microscratches on the gold, but overall the cap is in excellent condition with just one small ding under the very end of the clip.

In terms of valuing this, we are aware of the recent strengthening in the price of gold. The cap (minus inner cap and metal clutch) and the clip weigh around 11g. At Friday 31st October's gold price of around GBP52.475 per gram for 14k gold, the gold in the cap is worth around £525 in scrap value alone. The balance is easily made up with the fully serviced and functional 51 pen in the uncommon and sought after colour of nassau green

We have fully serviced this pen which includes disassembling the pen, ultrasonically cleaning all the parts and fitting a new diaphragm. We then reassemble the pen, check ink flow and the smoothness of the nib. We also check and adjust the tightness and positioning of the clip.
This is a Parker 51 with the vacumatic filling system. The pen fills from an ink bottle and does not take cartridges
