Portobello Market - Saturdays only The market starts slowly from around 5.30am on Saturdays only, mainly with professional dealers trading amongst themselves, although the majority of the 1,500 dealers arrive between 6.30am and 8.30am. Momentum builds and by 10am the Street is vibrant with visitors and traders. Some of the dealers go home after lunch, but many stay until 4.00pm. We recommend visiting 101, Portobello Road - easily found as it has a large red teapot hanging from the outside wall. which has a good selection of pens, Victorian pencils, watches, lighters (particularly Dunhill petrol) from around 8am to 3pm. The Admiral Vernon Gallery, just down the road, usually has 2-3 pen dealers present. Portobello is 3km west of Marble Arch. The nearest underground station is Notting Hill Gate which is on the Central (red), Circle (yellow) and District (green) lines. The big red buses 7, 12, 23, 27, 52 and 88 as well as the minibuses 28 and 31 all stop close to Portobello Road. the market is located on Portobello Road in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. A wealth of information on Portobello is available at the Portobello Antique Dealers' Association |

Covent Garden - Mondays only With around 150 stalls and surrounded by a wide range of small specialist shops, this historic market location is well worth a visit. There may be one or two pen dealers set up on the tables, but this is really a general antiques market located within the building complex which used to house London's flower market. Easily reached on the Piccadilly tube line and has its own station - Covent Garden! |
